Volunteer Driver
Help us keep our mission on the move! Volunteer drivers use their own vehicles to transport cats, supplies, and equipment to adoption events, foster homes, and partner locations across the Coachella Valley.

Marketing & Outreach
Help spread the word about our mission. Our marketing team creates engaging content, manages social media, runs ads, writes copy, and promotes adoption events to get more cats into loving homes.

Adoption Event Volunteer
Be the friendly face that helps our kitties find their perfect families. At events, you'll talk with potential adopters, assist with setup, and share information about our rescue partners and adoption process.

Design & Video
Calling all creatives. We need graphic designers, photographers, and videographers to create eye-catching materials, promotional videos, and content that helps tell our cats' stories and find them homes. 

Tech & IT Support
Are you tech-savvy? Our IT team helps maintain our website, troubleshoots tech issues, and develops tools to streamline the adoption process.

Fundraising & Development
Support our life-saving mission by organizing fundraising campaigns, assisting with donor relations, and helping with grant applications to keep Desert Catopia rolling.

Currently Seeking

  • Our cats need safe and reliable rides to and from adoption events. As a Volunteer Cat Transport Driver, you’ll play a crucial role in helping rescue cats get where they need to go—all while making a real difference in their journey to finding a forever home.

    This role is perfect for cat-loving individuals in the Coachella Valley with access to their own vehicle who want to contribute their time and driving skills to support animal welfare.

    Time Commitment:

    1-5 hours per week

    Reports To:

    Volunteer Program Manager

    Requirements:

    • Must be at least 18 years old

    • Access to a reliable vehicle

    • Valid driver’s license

    • Proof of vehicle registration and insurance

    • Maintain regular vehicle maintenance to ensure safe transport

    • Be able to physically lift a loaded carrier (up to 20 lbs)

    • Must love cats and be comfortable handling cats in carriers

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure cats travel comfortably and safely in secure carriers

    • Transport cats to and from adoption events

    • Communicate with Desert Catopia staff and fosters regarding trip details

    • Represent Desert Catopia’s mission with a positive and professional attitude

    • Provide weekly availability for transport requests

    Types of Rides:

    Local Transport:

    • Drive cats from foster homes or partner rescues to adoption events

    • Pick up cats from adoption events and return them to their foster homes

      Longer Distance Transport:

    • Assist with bringing adoptable cats from overburdened shelters to our adoption program

    • Help coordinate and complete rescue transfers when needed

  • Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for animal rescue? As a Volunteer Social Media Manager for Desert Catopia, you’ll play a key role in sharing the stories of our adoptable cats, promoting adoption events, and engaging our growing community of cat lovers. Your content will help connect more people with rescue cats in need of a forever home.

    This role is perfect for someone who loves social media, understands digital marketing, and wants to use their skills to make a real difference in animal welfare.

    Time Commitment:

    5-10 hours per week

    Reports To:

    Volunteer Program Manager

    Requirements:

    • Experience managing social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook)

    • Strong writing and content creation skills

    • Ability to update website content and manage email newsletters

    • Familiarity with basic graphic design and video editing tools

    • Passion for animal rescue and adoption advocacy

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Create and schedule engaging social media posts featuring adoptable cats, upcoming events, and success stories

    • Grow and engage our online community by responding to comments, messages, and tags

    • Capture or source photos and videos that showcase our mission and available cats

    • Maintain and update website content with event details and adoption info

    • Manage and grow our newsletter email list, crafting engaging updates for subscribers

    • Collaborate with the Desert Catopia team to develop creative campaigns that raise awareness and drive adoptions

  • Want to be part of the magic when a cat finds their forever home? As an Adoption Event Volunteer, you’ll be on the front lines helping connect adoptable cats with their future families. From setting up cozy cat spaces to chatting with potential adopters, your role is key in making our adoption events a success.

    2-6 hours per event (weekends and occasional weekdays)

    Requirements:

    • Comfortable handling and interacting with cats

    • Friendly and outgoing, able to talk with potential adopters and answer questions

    • Willing to help with event setup, breakdown, and general tasks

    • Passionate about animal rescue and adoption advocacy

    • Ability to follow safety and handling guidelines for the well-being of the cats

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist with setting up and breaking down adoption event spaces

    • Help potential adopters meet and interact with available cats

    • Provide information on adoption policies and procedures

    • Ensure a safe and comfortable environment for both cats and visitors

    • Represent Desert Catopia’s mission and values with a positive and welcoming attitude

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Those aged 12-15 can volunteer only if a parent is present, while 16-18 may volunteer independently with written parental permission.

  • Previous experience and cat-handling skills are a plus but not required! Most volunteer roles don’t involve direct cat handling, so enthusiasm for rescue, a willingness to learn, and a passion for our mission are just as important.

  • Desert Catopia is a mobile adoption bus, not a shelter. Our cats stay in loving foster homes or with our rescue and shelter partners until they find their forever families. Our adoption events take place across Coachella Valley — at festivals, farmers' markets, and community gatherings — with occasional events throughout SoCal

  • While we occasionally foster kittens, it’s not a common opportunity with Desert Catopia. However, we’d love to connect you with our rescue partners who are always in need of foster homes. Together, we can help save more lives!

  • If you need proof of volunteering with a 501(c)3 organization, we will happily provide this letter once your hours are complete. However, we're unable to expedite the completion of these hours.

  • Absolutely! We're happy to accommodate your schedule and offer volunteer opportunities while you're in the valley.
