Our cats need safe and reliable rides to and from adoption events. As a Volunteer Cat Transport Driver, you’ll play a crucial role in helping rescue cats get where they need to go—all while making a real difference in their journey to finding a forever home.

This role is perfect for cat-loving individuals in the Coachella Valley with access to their own vehicle who want to contribute their time and driving skills to support animal welfare.

Time Commitment:

1-5 hours per week

Reports To:

Volunteer Program Manager

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old

• Access to a reliable vehicle

• Valid driver’s license

• Proof of vehicle registration and insurance

• Maintain regular vehicle maintenance to ensure safe transport

• Be able to physically lift a loaded carrier (up to 20 lbs)

• Must love cats and be comfortable handling cats in carriers

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure cats travel comfortably and safely in secure carriers

• Transport cats to and from adoption events

• Communicate with Desert Catopia staff and fosters regarding trip details

• Represent Desert Catopia’s mission with a positive and professional attitude

• Provide weekly availability for transport requests

Types of Rides:

Local Transport:

• Drive cats from foster homes or partner rescues to adoption events

• Pick up cats from adoption events and return them to their foster homes

  Longer Distance Transport:

• Assist with bringing adoptable cats from overburdened shelters to our adoption program

• Help coordinate and complete rescue transfers when needed

• Grow and engage our online community by responding to comments, messages, and tags

• Capture or source photos and videos that showcase our mission and available cats

• Maintain and update website content with event details and adoption info

• Manage and grow our newsletter email list, crafting engaging updates for subscribers

• Collaborate with the Desert Catopia team to develop creative campaigns that raise awareness and drive adoptions
